Saturday night’s gig for Nicky and Jonathan Richards garden party at their lovely house in Weare Street was a special one for us. During our more than two years away from gigging, David’s voice had dropped somewhere around a semi-tone. The result of that was that songs that Kim had spent many years playing largely in the key of C now needed to be played in the key of B. This was quite an adjustment and it meant that our first gig back together at the Star in Rusper felt a little hesitant.
On Saturday however, everything fell back into place and it just felt like an Across The Border gig. We also had Nicky, an accomplished violinist with the Horsham Symphony Orchestra, join us for a couple of songs on the cajon. In addition, it’s always special to be playing outside as the sun goes down.

Back in May 2008, singer and guitarist David Jameson came along to the Crown to play saxophone with the long-time house band, the Capel All Stars and was introduced to Kim by mutual friend Andrew McFarlane. Within a few weeks the two were playing together and not long after formed Across The Border. Not suprisingly, the Crown has always been a special place for us amidst the many hundreds of gigs we’ve played over the years.
It had been three years since we last appeared there and it was a privilege to launch a bank holiday three days of music, much of it raising money for charity. For us, it felt like coming home and we loved inviting and sharing the stage with Sarah and Ian, the very talented Smooth Grooves. Even better, we’ll be back on Saturday 12th October.

Torrential rain pretty much ruined the wonderful Rusper May Day Festival and it was obvious from early in the morning that, for us, playing outside was going to be impossible. Fortunately, our good friend Simon White arranged for us to play inside to a large audience at the Star, a lovely pub that Kim last played in around twenty years ago with the Capel All Stars.
We played two sets that lasted a couple of hours and it was very enjoyable to be back together playing live after more than two years.
