Across the Border

The Light

I never thought it would end this way with not even a caution,
You seemed to give up so easily was it the lack of conversation.
Did you mind the lonely days and nights the texts and the answer phone,
Was it just too much to bear your neck heavy with millstone
.

Did it fade so very fast the light that shined so bright,
Could it last the test of time before you took to flight
.

I should have seen it coming - the writing on the wall,
Deeds and mystery flourished and surrounded you like a shawl.
I thought that we would make it - prove everybody wrong,
I tried to deceive myself - lose myself in the throng.

Did it fade so very fast the light that shined so bright,
Could it last the test of time before you took to flight
.

Please don’t think of me badly I gave it my best shot,
I guess I’m just a dreamer who’s never happy with his lot.
Some say it’s in my gene pool a shallow lonely place,
I never reached bottom I gave up on the chase.

Did it fade so very fast the light that shined so bright,
Could it last the test of time before you took to flight.

Am I meant to plough my furrow looking after number 1,
Was it meant to be my burden to miss out on all the fun.
Some couples last for ever but do they have inner strength,
To cast of all their shackles and let happiness commence
.

Did it fade so very fast the light that shined so bright,
Could it last the test of time before you took to flight.
