Across the Border

How Did It Come To This?

I’ve never been to the North Pole Alaska or Maldives,
I’ve never seen an ice cap melt or witnessed Russian skies.
I’ve read it in the papers and seen it on TV,
That global warming and Climate change is what I should believe.

The experts tell you one thing and others disagree,
But ecosystems falter ice melts into the sea.
The weather it is changing hottest in 400 years,
Rising temperatures in Alaska are what the fishermen fear.

The polar bears are suffering the glaciers vanishing fast,
The mountain snows are melting the North Pole will not last.
The coral reefs are bleaching too sensitive to change,
Sea levels they are rising and is mankind to blame.

Spring and thaws arrive early the water tables rise,
The Indian Ocean islanders watch their land demise.
The palm oil giants are plundering the forests and the homes,
Of all the indigenous species that were once free to roam.

The USA & Russia China and the East,
Are blamed for what is happening and threaten world peace.
But Western countries are just as bad
Do they practice what they preach,
When consumer spending and lack of thought
Create targets out of reach.

The polar bears are suffering the glaciers vanishing fast,
The mountain snows are melting the North Pole will not last.
The coral reefs are bleaching too sensitive to change,
Sea levels they are rising and is mankind to blame.

The legacy to leave the planet for others to enjoy,
Will rely on this generation agreeing to employ.
A worldwide agreement for emissions to be slashed,
To stop museums showing extinction unabashed.

How many species in the museum no longer roam the land,
How many children do not care as life is now a brand.
For future generations to marvel at the feast,
Of wildlife roaming naturally in habitat not policed.

The polar bears are suffering the glaciers vanishing fast,
The mountain snows are melting the North Pole will not last.
The coral reefs are bleaching too sensitive to change,
Sea levels they are rising and is mankind to blame
